| KNHS is dedicated to increasing the quality and quantity of homeowners in Kalamazoo County by providing on-going training and counseling regarding all aspects of purchasing a home.
Attending a KNHS Homebuyer Orientation is the first step for anyone interested in purchasing a home. Sessions are held twice per week in the KNHS office at 802 S. Westnedge.
Because of the popularity of these sessions, you must contact the KNHS office for a schedule of times and dates at (269) 385-2916.
Following Orientation and after meeting one on one with the Homeowner Specialists, you will enter into our Home Buyers Club.
Homeownership Specialist Carla James leads the sessions.
Through participation in the KNHS Home Buyer Education sessions, you will gain knowledge in the following areas related to homeownership:
- The relationship between your employment and income and your ability to purchase a home
- How to budget and gain control of your personal money management
- The role your personal credit history plays
- How to overcome bad credit and create good credit
- How to successfully find the right home for you and your family
- How to successfully finance a home purchase
- How to inspect a home prior to purchase
- Work with a Real Estate agent
- General home maintenance, repair, and safety
Graduates who have regularly attended the seminars will also have the support of the KNHS staff in finding financing through KNHS or other local lending institutions. We will support any potential homeowner with one-on-one counseling throughout the entire process of buying a home.
