Comprehensive Community Development
KNHS takes a comprehensive approach to neighborhood redevelopment. We believe that a very targeted strategy of comprehensive community development is one that works. Our goal of returning neighborhoods to a healthy condition involves multiple strategies:
- removal of blighted structures too deteriorated to be rehabilitated
- rehab and resale of homes that are structurally sound
- conversion of rental units to owner-occupied homes whenever possible
- building brand new homes on vacant lots in core city neighborhoods often overlooked by builders
- participation in joint neighborhood revitalization projects with other Kalamazoo nonprofits and the City of Kalamazoo
- participation in neighborhood pride and image building activities
